June 24th, a new sketch and a Guest Designer!~

Yea! It's reveal day at Stuck on U Sketches and we are doubly excited. Maybe even triple! First we have a great sketch from the awesome Liz Qualman! We all just adore her work and it is always a treat using her well-balanced sketches! Hopefully, you will enjoy it as well and play along this challenge.

And secondly, we have a special Guest Designer this week, Shona Keehn of Such a Wonderful Mess. We know you will love her work! Below is her photo and a bit of bio that Shona wrote for us.

"First off, I would like to thank you for inviting me to be a guest at SOUS..what a great surprise to get the invite and I am so excited!

My name is Shona Keehn and I am from British Columbia, Canada. I have 3 children and a wonderful husband of 26 years. He is pretty supportive with my scrapping addiction and tries not to blow a gasket when I spend too much on it…lol

I have been scrapping for many years but have just found my scrappy style in the last year, Shabby Chic, and it is definitely something that I change up lots. I love to try new techniques and make embellishments. One of my favourites is to work with a sketch, either for layouts or cards. I love how so many artists can be so different from one sketch.

I get so much inspiration from everyone in the scrapping world and I hope that you can get some from me. Thank you again for invited me to be a guest. I hope you like my creations as much as I loved working with that gorgeous sketch. "

Decoupaged wooden letters tutorial 6/17

Hi everyone Wanda here, I am gonna show you how I made this Family wall decoration

A great way to show off your Grand kids maybe a sports pic or a vacation trip ..... I choose to show off my 2 Beautiful Grand daughters

First you are going to need your wooden letters I bought mine at Michael's and they are 9ins.

your mod podge, any black paint ,a pencil, scissors, sand paper, Sm foam brush and a printer.

First I painted my letters black try to do nice even strokes so you don't have a lot of brush lines

While the letters are drying choose the pictures you want to use and print them with your printer, I made mine black & white .

Then you are going to lay your picture on the letter where you want it and flip it over so you can trace around it with your pencil. I add a little two way tape to keep it in place when flipping it...

Once you have traced them go a head and cut them out don't worry if they go over the edge of the letter ...you are gonna sand them.

Next you are going to take your mod podge and apply it to the back of your picture then place your picture where you want it on your letter , do this with all your pictures.

Once that is done take your sand paper and go around any of the edges of your pictures that are

hanging over the edge of the letter and sand them down , I also sanded here and there on the edge of the letters...this is optional .

Now take your Mod Podge and apply it to fronts & sides ( INCLUDING PICTURES ) of the letters you will want to do this rather quickly as it drys pretty quick. I started with the sides first. Let them dry completely......a few hours

Once dry embellish as you wish .

I made mine country for my living room , used ribbon , buttons ,lace,....and some charms.

the possibilities are endless ...I see a Disney maybe a beach one , what ever you choose have fun with it and enjoy.

June 10th, sketch challenge!

Wow, already the second week of June? I can't believe it! Hope you're finding some great ways to have fun but stay out of the heat! (If you are looking for the Summer Blog Hop, then click HERE.) And if you are looking for the current challenge, then you are already in the right spot! While you're here, just let me say that on behalf the entire DT at SOUS, we are over the moon excited about all the lovely comments you have been leaving the past week. And we treasure each new follower. We hope that you will find time to play along with us .. we always enjoy seeing new talent!

This time we have a fabulous sketch from Beggahuna, featuring lots of great negative space. Of course, some of us are inclined to fill it up ... but at least we're heading in that direction. This is a multi-pic layout sketch, so grab some photos and let's get scrapping!

Distresssed Rustic Gate tutorial

Gather your supplies I have used the Cricut Cartridge Ornamental Iron but this technique can be used for just about anything. Using the Triangle Crafts Sophisticated Finishes there are several brands like Modern Options (I also have this) so be on the look out for several manufactures that sell these type finish products. Here we are using the Triangle Crafts Sophisticated Finishes sold at Michael's Arts and Crafts and other art suppliers. At Michael's I have seen them in the wooden section. You will need the Iron Metallic Surfacer and the Rust Antiquing Solution. Two paint brushes any type, size depending on your project. Craft mat or wax paper. Thin chipboard I used the back of a paper pack. Masking tape and of course whatever you are gonna RUST!

Here is a photo of the supplies you will need.

and then:

First insert the cartridge, I have used the deep cut blade and housing but if using cardstock you will not need the deep cut blade. Tape the thin chipboard (a cereal box will work), to the mat securely. Insert mat setting the depth to max and multicut. Remove from mat once cut.

Once on the craft mat plaint a thick coat of the Iron Metallic Surfacer on the fence.

Now before the Iron Metallic Surfacer is dry begin painting with the Rust Antiquing Solution this will help to get a more RUSTY look. You can let dry completely and only have spots of rust, but I like rust so I put it on before it dries. Just a hint but the directions are on the back of the bottle, this is just what I like to do.

Allow to dry completely, I use a fan with the technique I have not used a heat gun to speed the process??? I always just make in a step an allow to dry on its own

Now you have this amazing rusty gate that looks old and so real. If you need to for your project you can seal this with an acrylic sealer. Spray it outside in a well ventilated area if you choose to seal this. I will not for my use. Thank You and I hope you can use this super cool technique using a awesome product!! Enjoy! Dawn Gallop
